Intended Use

For diagnosis and monitoring of hypo and hypermagnesemia.
Magnesium is elevated in renal failure; decreased in cardiac arrythmias,
and is associated with hypocalcemia, hypokalemia, long-term
hyperalimentation, intravenous therapy, diabetes mellitus, alcoholism, and
other types of malnutrition &
malabsorption.

 

Limitations

Hemolyisis causes falsely elevated results. Measuring
range:  0.243 to 4.86 mg/dL. In
very rare cases of  gammopathy
(Waldestrom macroglobulinemia) may cause unreliable
results

Plasma sample ( EDTA, F or oxalate); gross hemolysis;
improper labeling.
